Growing up and even through college, I was a little bigger than other girls my age but I was never really overweight. After I had my daughter, I noticed the number on the scale kept going higher and higher. Every year I would try every fad diet, exercise program, and weight loss miracle pill. After years of failed attempts, I realized weight loss surgery could be my last option. At first I was hesitant because I was scared of the things that could go wrong. I soon realized that I had to do something because if I did not have weight loss surgery and be successful then my life was not going to get any better. I had reached a point in my life where I could not do anything without getting out of breath. I could not find clothes to fit and I could not do anything active with my family. Dr. Snow and his staff seriously saved my life. Every step from the initial consultation, 6-month dietitian visits, preoperative tests, surgery and post-operative visits have been amazing. Dr. Snow has the best bedside manner and knows what is best for his patients and what they are capable of. The morning of surgery I was very dehydrated and after surgery I woke up with some gas pain. Those are things that can happen to anyone and looking back they were just a small bump in the road. The surgery itself was so quick and the incisions have healed very well, you can barely even see them. The months after surgery were definitely a learning experience. I learned what a problem I had with food and how inactive I was. There was one goal that was set for me that I was about 15 pounds away from and it upset me so much. After that, I have met every goal Dr snow has set for me. I have learned to feed my body what I need not what looks good. I have learned that food is fuel and I now track everything that I eat or drink. In order to meet my one-year goal of 199 pounds I started exercising for at least 30 minutes in the mornings and walking / jogging 1 to 3 miles each evening. I am now in a habit of doing that and plan on continuing my routine going forward. The main thing I have learned is to take it one day, one decision at a time. Weight loss surgery is a tool and must be used properly in order to have successful results. My journey is far from over, I still have 20 to 30 pounds to lose. There is no doubt in my mind that I will get to my goal with the great support system that I have. I am so very thankful for everyone who has played a role in my journey so far!
